spring | for the flowers and the bees

No worries, no lesson in spring fever here - we leave that to the experts ;-) But some nice tips to make your garden or balcony a true bee and butterfly paradise. Because things are not going well with bees and butterflies. More than half have almost disappeared. That is because there are fewer and fewer places where they can find food and make a nest. We also see fewer and fewer butterflies, because their habitat is also threatened by the construction of industrial areas, roads and residential areas. And bees and butterflies are essential for spreading pollen. This allows flowers, fruit and plants to grow.

A little paradise... that includes a nice place to stay. Butterflies naturally like to crawl into sheds, woodpiles or bushes, so don't tidy everything up (if possible). But bees and other insects are also very happy with an insect hotel. You can make one yourself, for example there are countless examples on Pinterest. But there are also many beautiful ones available, such as the Busy Bee Hotel by Studio Carmela Bogman . Made from recycled felt with maple wood. The various entrances in the wood provide a nice environment for the bee. The contemporary design also makes it an eye-catcher in your garden or patio.

In addition to a nice place to stay, it is of course also nice if there is something tasty to get. And of course you need flowers for that. Because butterflies and bees feed on nectar, among other things. And because they move around, they bring pollen from one flower to another. Many food crops and plants can only reproduce or bear fruit after pollination. You can of course plant beautiful flowering plants or fruit trees in your garden, but how nice is it to sow a border with wild flowers! “Throw” a few nice flower bombs in the border, water them and let nature do its work. By mixing different seeds, you can enjoy beautiful wild flowers all summer long. You will be happy and so will the bees and butterflies!

If you are not blessed with a garden, you can also put the flower bombs in a large pot or create a herb corner on your balcony. This also attracts bees and other useful insects.

Or throw the flower bombs on a vacant lot or strip of grass near you (note: the flower bombs may not be thrown in a protected nature reserve), then you can also enjoy them while taking a walk.

More about the preservation of the bee and butterfly population can be found on the websites of the national government or nature monuments . In addition, there is a national bee count from April 15 to April 24 and May 20 is World Bee Day. Enough initiatives for a better future for the bee!
