This month maison KOOS has been around for 9 years. Read all about the origins of maison KOOS here. Wow, 9 years already! Time flies when you get to do things you like! And apparently you like it too, because maison KOOS has grown so much in recent years. I started with a small assortment from home, but recently I started working with quite a few more beautiful items from my own maison KOOS warehouse... I'm quite proud!
But time to introduce the face behind maison KOOS to you. I am Kirsten Oosterwaal, married for 17 years to the sweetest and mother of 2 fun but stubborn children. We live in beautiful Brabant, close to the forests and dunes and the Efteling, where we can be found regularly. I am not really the sporty type, but hey it is good for me! Except when it comes to skating or snowboarding, that really makes me happy. I also love to cook extensively or eat out. I can really enjoy an evening in a nice restaurant with delicious food and good conversations with my husband and friends.
on the beach
It's because we have it so nice here and we have our family and friends close to us, but otherwise I would live by the sea. I love the beach and the sea very much. Not only in the summer, but also in the fall or winter I like to walk along the beach, with my feet in the water, looking for a few shells. Then I can relax... just clear my head in our nice but oh so busy life.
the origins of maison KOOS
The idea for maison KOOS came about during our honeymoon, where I discovered a beautiful Greek brand that was not yet available in the Netherlands. I wanted to do something with this, start a webshop with this brand and supplement it with all kinds of other nice products that you would not find on every street corner. At first it remained an idea and the beautiful Greek brand had long been available in the Netherlands. But after working in retail and commercial services for years, I was ready for something new. The seed that was planted in Greece at the time blossomed again. On January 21, 2016, maison KOOS went live: a webshop full of carefully selected products of good quality with a sustainable character that will last a lifetime.
maison KOOS is actually an extension of my personality. I also do my shopping this way, the basis of my clothing is beautiful pieces that still look good after years: no trend items that you can no longer wear after one season. And in my interior I also go for simple but timeless and of good quality. And yes of course I supplement that with nice things that are on-trend at the moment, but that is always only a small part of my wardrobe or interior.
sustainability & environment
Sustainability is an important yardstick for me and therefore also for maison KOOS. I would like to sell something special and timeless, but in the most honest way possible. I also like to select the products for the most environmentally friendly production possible, preferably handmade and using natural materials.
And the name...? KOOS is a contraction of K. Oosterwaal, my name. Originally a "working title" but it stuck. In addition, "maison" stands for the quality, elegance and luxurious but sustainable products in our concept store, but with the Dutch sobriety of "KOOS".
